Xbox one X
Microsoft has been teasing the new upcoming console for months now and at E3 we were given a first world premiere. The console seems heavily orientated on its 4K capability as seen throughout the trailer.
The new console is ‘powerful enough to run games at true 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) at up to 60fps.’ The console will be called the ‘Xbox One X’ and will launch worldwide on the 7th of November 2017 for £449 for the UK or $499 for the US. This means the new console from Microsoft costs £110 more than the PS4 Pro if you are in the UK or $160 if you are in the US.
For Playstation’s E3 2017 press conference the new and up-coming Spider-man game was shown off with some gameplay. From this we gather that the game will be released sometime in 2018 as we see by the end of the trailer.
We can see from the gameplay that the game will be very fast paced but filled with quick time events such as when Spiderman is heroically taking down the helicopter with the masked men in and the player having to press the ‘Square’ or ‘Triangle’ button to take over the aircraft.
The quick time events implementation is a good feature to have in a game and in some games like God Of War it does work very nicely but for some gamers it can prove very annoying because it takes gamers away from the playing the game and makes the game about mashing buttons instead of playing the game.
The graphics of the game look amazing and paired with the open world gameplay this could be a very good game pickup in 2018 for Playstation users.
God Of War 4
Other than Spider-man a God Of War 4 official trailer was released in the conference and shows Kratos kicking evil’s butt yet again. This game will be £54.99 or $59.99 similar to Destiny 2’s prices and will be released early 2018.
In the trailer we see Kratos’ mighty axe enter the ocean after him throwing it in there. The game will be filled with hacking and slashing as it should be and at the end of the trailer we see a giant sea snake. In game the characters would refer to the snake as the ‘World Serpent’ which according to the Norse mythology if he shows up it is usually bad news, especially if he releases his tail because then Ragnorak (the Norse apocalypse) would officially begin.
This installment in the series is not as violent heavy as the other titles in the franchise but instead follows a pattern that has shown up with the latest titles released by Playstation which is to be more narrative heavy such as in Uncharted 4, The Last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn which have been very narrative heavy compared to combat.
Nintendo Switch Games
This years Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation was all about the Switch and released the names of some big titles such as Metroid Prime 4 and the as-yet-unnamed Pokemon RPG game due in 2018/19.
Nintendo released new information about Zelda: Breath of the Wild new DLCs such as ‘The Master Trials’ and ‘The Champions Ballad’ which are due in the upcoming holiday period. In these DLCs there are new armor such as the Korok Mask, a new Master Mode and ‘Hero’s Path’ that tracks every step you’ve been on the map.
Along with the new DLCs there is also new Zelda Amiibos arriving, which include Mipha, Daruk, Revali and Urbosa and will be available to buy and use in the Breath Of the Wild and DLCs.
Super Mario Odyssey
The new and upcoming ‘Super Mario Odyssey’ was shown of at E3 and one of the staples for the game is ‘Cappy’ which is Mario’s lovable red hat. It seems that ‘Cappy’ can perform a multitude of tricks as well as using it to ‘possess’ characters and objects in the world and if you throw ‘Cappy’ at a rocket and you can blast of to new other areas.
As well as ‘Cappy’ another major feature was shown at E3 was the 2D to 3D function where Mario can stick himself to a wall and revert to his old ways of 2D jumping which is useful for circumnavigating large buildings in New Donk City. This idea was actually extracted from the 3DS game ‘Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.
With the 2D to 3D and back again function and ‘Cappy’ Super Mario Odyssey seems to be the game most anticipated that has been released by Nintendo and could prove to be the best selling when it is released in October 27th 2017. This is definitely a game to keep your eye on and pickup.
Big cross platform titles
Far Cry 5
The highly anticipated ‘Far Cry 5’ was revealed by Ubisoft with some gameplay action finally revealed. The game is set in a fictional hope country, Montana, in modern day where a fanatical cult known as ‘Eden’s Gate’ has overrun the area. It is up to the player to shoot their way through the game, one bullet at a time.
In Far Cry 5 the map seems to be a bar towards the top of your screen much like in Skyrim and probably highlights points of interest and missions this is a change from the ‘normal’ map we are used to in the games.
There seems to be a big yellow death plane ready to blow up anything and everything in its path. This aircraft is flown by Nick Rye, he is the local pilot with a baby on the way which means he is fighting to secure a better future for his child.
His father flew for the army but Nick flies for the player. You can call Nick in for air support if you are in a tight situation and with the mini guns he has strapped on he can rain down a world of hate onto your enemies. These is a very interesting game element and could give you the upper hand in combat.
Far Cry 5 will be released on the 27th of February 2018 for Xbox one, PS4 and PC and will be priced at $60 or £55. Preordering gives you the Doomsday Prepper Pack which includes the prepper outfit, gun, and vehicle skins plus additional consumables.
Star Wars Battlefront 2
EA showed off its latest installment in the Battlefront Franchise ‘Star wars Battlefront 2’ with Inferno Squad Commander Iden Versio in all-black armor leading the presentation and showing off a mighty Stormtrooper battalion.
The singleplayer element is finally arriving to the franchise after it was not included in the 2015 Star Wars Battlefront. EA listened to the player base and added it back. The singleplayer story is told through the Inferno Squad Commander Iden Versio who is also a pretty good TIE Fighter pilot. In the trailer we see Versio lead her squad into Endor fighting off the rebels just to see their space station blow up in the trailer.
Overall the singleplayer seems to include elements of Versio’s homeworld which is described as an ‘Imperial Utopia’ where Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine are seen as leaders and an encounter between Luke Skywalker and Iden Versio.
By the trailer above it seems Star Wars Battlefront 2 will offer more than just Imperials vs Rebels as we previously were given by the last game. By the trailer we see the First Order, which means Kylo Ren and Rey, we also get a glimpse at the Death Troopers from Rogue One and we see the famous Wookies presumably on Kashyyk where Order 66 is invoked on Yoda and what Commander Gree tried to carry out. The clone commander was no match for the Jedi Master and fell to Yoda instantly.
Also in the trailer we also see a batch of X-wings in formation with the Millenium Falcon narrowly avoiding asteroids which guarantees the return of space battles. At the end of the trailer we see the Palpatine in a red suit. These are called ‘Sentinels’ and were used after the death of Paplatine during the battle of Endor. These sentinels were capable of playing pre recorded messages from the head and were manufactured in an Imperial base on the planet Vetine.
The bonus you will receive when you preorder Star Wars Battlefront 2 will consist of Kylo Ren with 2x Epic Ability Modifications that allow you to freeze and pull opponents as you use the force and an epic Ability Modifier for the new First Order ship.
As well as Kylo Ren you will also get Rey with 2x Epic Ability Modifications that allow you to control the minds of enemies and an Epic Ability Modification that upgrades the Millenium Falcon to the Star Wars: The Last Jedi Millenium Falcon.
Destiny 2 will be dropping on the 7th of September 2017. The base game will be retailed at £55 for console users and £49.99 for PC users on GAME.
In game Destiny 2 has been changed from the original Destiny with the main story occurring after the story line of the original Destiny where the tower is overrun by the Cabal and your vault full of your beloved legendaries and the famous Gjallarhorn has been destroyed and you have to start from scratch in the new Cabal ridden world.
Information has been released that veteran Destiny players have chances to earn exclusive emblems by completing objectives in the original game such as ‘Slayer of Oryx’ where you have to own The Taken King and completed all 8 Moments of Triumph during Destiny’s second year. This is now unobtainable if you have not already completed the 8 Moments of Triumph in the second year of Destiny since the record book of the Moments of Triumph has ended.
Destiny 2 has reshaped the crucible into 4v4 PVP games and has added Clans into the in-game menu. The clans system will also have their own unique reward system, which means if you play with friends you will earn additional loot.
In Destiny 2 a new campaign will be known as the ‘Red War’ with ‘more cinematics than ever before’ and a new strike mission titled ‘The Inverted Spire.’ A new Guided Games feature will let new players to group up with experienced clans for harder raid and strike missions. This means there will finally be raid matchmaking, a considerable flaw with the original Destiny, which was dreaded by the community as they had to go to third party sites to group up with other raiders.
The new arc-based subclass for the Hunter ‘Arcstrider’ debuted at E3, which is set to replace the old Bladedancer subclass. Not a lot is known of the new subclass except for the super, which consists of summoning a staff ablaze with arc energy that strikes enemies down in close combat which is very similar to the old subclass.
Exclusive content for Destiny 2 is reserved for Playstation and includes an exclusive strike titled ‘Lake of Shadows’ containing the taken from the original Destiny, an exclusive ship named ‘City Apex’, an exclusive exotic sniper rifle named ‘Borealis’ which can change its damage types at will of the player, an exclusive PVP map entitled ‘Retribution’ and one exclusive armor set for each of the classes.
The bonus you get for preordering Destiny 2 is early access for the Beta of the game and if you preorder at GameStop you will receive everyone’s favourite character Cayde-6 from the original Destiny in a figurine form.
Anthem is the new upcoming IP from Bioware, which was announced in E3 2017. This is a sci-fi title set in the future and is a third person shooter. There is not much known about the game – let alone the platforms it will be playable on but Xbox seems a safe bet as Microsoft presented the game.
As seen from the gameplay trailer above the game is strikingly stunning. The game looks somewhat like Warframe, a title released back in March 2013. Both games seem to revolve aorund suits of armor with unique abilities however Anthem seems like an open world game with dynamic weather elements.
There is no confirmed release date for the game but Bioware are aiming to release the game sometime in 2018.
